# The Purge Anarchy is a film that was released in 2013 by director James DeMonaco, who is also the creator of The Purge. In this prequel, we learn about the history of the events leading up to the timeframe of The Purge. In this time period there was a war going on between communities and they came up with a project called "the purge" so as to try and clear their territory and maintain order. They placed all those who had betrayed them on a truck and dropped them off at different locations throughout society so as to draw out their enemies. The purge was imposed for one night where normal citizens could kill without concern by the law. All murders would be legal if they were caught, which they would not. After the purge, they would return to normalcy and the war would continue.The film was shot in New York City and Montreal, Quebec. The Purge Anarchy was released on Blu-ray on January 24, 2014. The Purge Anarchy is an action/thriller film that does not have a lot of violence at all, but quite a bit of gore. There is a lot of blood and lots of killing. It is rated R for strong brutal violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and drug use. There are a few scenes that have heavy sexual contents as well as nudity, but this is not to be confused with pornography. In these parts of the movie actors are either clothed topless or have only their nether regions exposed. This film has been rated R for its many aggressive sequences. The violence is quite brutal, sometimes being so extreme it's offensive. The story line follows a group of four people trying to survive the purge attack on civilians by other citizens who take advantage of the lawlessness to become murders without consequence. There is a lot of fighting, shooting and stabbing. It is not for children or those who are squeamish. The violence is hard to watch and the killings are graphic.The Purge Anarchy has many similarities to other films such as "The Descent" and "The Road" but the only similarities often regarded as negative by viewers are that it is a little slow at times and occasionally confusing due to flashbacks from previous events. This movie also has its flaws by not being as suspenseful as it could have been, but I feel that this was due to the movie being poorly marketed as a horror/suspense movie rather than an action/thriller film which is what it really should have been marketed as. Instead, the movie is very graphic and has many violent scenes. There is also not a lot of horror in this movie, which makes it seem more like a drama with some suspense. The level of violence is quite extreme in this film. This is because people are allowed to go on a killing spree for a night where there is no legal consequence for their actions.
